Are there good fish soup in the west of Singapore?
Most people will eagerly mentioned how many good fish soup are found in the east side of Singapore, from the familiar Hua Ji XO Fish Head Bee Horn and Jun Yuan House of Fish both located at Old Airport Road to the popular Yan Ji Seafood Soup which located to Old Airport Road last year, all these brands are all located in the east. So what about the much neglected, little mentioned West side?
We managed to scour around and found five decent fish soups in Buona Vista / Clementi / Jurong.
Looking around in any hawker centre, food court or coffee shop, you are bound to spot some ladies or men digging into a piping hot bowl of fish soup! This dish is a beloved favorite among locals, particularly the hardworking ladies juggling busy schedules and watching their eh hem waistlines. Bursting with delicate yet robust flavors, each spoonful of this fragrant broth is a symphony of fresh seafood essence, punctuated by tender fish slices (the type of fish will vary from stall to stall, so if you are particular about your fish, be prepared to pay more. One of the more commonly used fish type is the Spanish Mackerel (quite commonly found in Otah or in the supermarket.). There are other fish variations of course, some hawkers use more expensive fish like grouper or pomfret, while others may use lower grade fish especially when you order the fried fish option. We snooped around the west side of Singapore and managed to find some decent fish soup stalls.
